Working with Custom Questions

Custom Questions enable you to include your own questions in the navigation menu within the returns. You can make the questions either compulsory or mandatory. You may also decide on whether to print detailed or summarized reports that list the answers. 

Custom questions may serve several purposes: 

  • Assist taxpayers observe Due Diligence 
  • Assist business owners in ensuring compliance of the preparers with Due Diligence 
  • Track promotional programs
  • Track marketing campaigns
  • Remind preparers to offer extra products.

Creating a Custom Question 

To create a Custom Question: 

  • Go to the Main Menu of Taxx Savage Pro 
  • From the menu, select Configuration 
  • Then proceed to Custom Questions 
  • Select New in order to create a new question or click on Edit to adjust an existing question.

For instance; 

Is this Taxpayer a government employee?


  • Yes
  • No
  • Spouse Only
  • Taxpayer Only
  • Both Taxpayer and Spouse


Step 1 

Enter the Question that you want to be answered. 

Step 2 

Indicate whether the question is mandatory or optional for e-filed returns. This is done by either checking the box next to “Require Answer for E-File?” or leaving it blank. In the event that you check it, the question must be answered before the return can be marks for e-filing. 

Step 3 

Add possible responses to this question. To do this, enter the response into the “Answer Text” space, then click “Add New Answer” 

Step 4 

Click Exit once done with the question 


After creating a Custom Question, Custom Questions item will be displayed in the navigation menu inside returns: 



To show the question(s), select Custom Questions: 




Reporting on Custom Questions 


To print a report that lists the answers to the Custom Questions: 

  • Go to the Main Menu of the Taxx Savage Pro 
  • From the menu, select Reports 
  • Proceed to Custom Questions Reports 

You will find the following options: 

Print Totals of Answers for Questions - A PDF summary of the questions as well as how many times each answer was picked will be printed 

Export Totals of Answers for Questions to Excel - This is similar to the first option but now in a CSV file that is suitable for importation  into Excel. 

Print Answers per Return - This report will print a PDF list of every question that a client answers. 

Export Answers per Return to Excel - This is similar to the thor option but in CSV file that is suitable for importation into Excel.
