How to Setup Preparer Security Roles/Templates on the Desktop

In the Taxx Savage Pro, a security role refers to the preset permissions enabling access to different menus and features in the program. A security role is assigned to every user. The terms User and Preparer are usually synonymous. There are three predefined roles that come with the software:

Unlimited - Able to access all the menus in the programs
Super User - Able to access all the menus except for Firm/ERO/Preparer Setup.
Return Preparer - Unable to access Firm/ERO/Preparer Setup, E-file, Configuration, Utilities, Reports, or Updates, and are only able to work on their own tax returns.

The settings for the roles above cannot be altered, however, specific settings can be altered on a preparer-by-preparer basis.

Additional security roles may be created, customizing each to either allow or deny access to different menus as desired. To create a security role:

Go to the Main Menu of the Taxx Savage Pro
From the menu, select Configuration
Proceed to Firm/ERO/Preparer Setup
Then Role(s) Menu
Select New - name the role
Access to all menus is automatically set to YES and Tax Returns Access is set to Unlimited. (This is equal to the Unlimited role.) select “Preparer does not have Access” in order to deny access to a specific menu or feature. Select Tax Returns Access then “Access Limited to Preparer Only” in order to deny access to all returns.
Select 0. Exit Menu once you are done modifying the access restrictions.

The roles of a user can be changed by the ADMIN user or any user with the Unlimited role. To change the security role for a user:

Go to the Main Menu of Taxx Savage Pro
From the menu, select Configuration
Proceed to Firm/ERO/Preparer Setup
Then Preparer(s) Menu - Select the preparer you’d like to edit
Select Preparer Security
Role - Select the desired security role.
