What Are the Options of the Office Setup Menu on Proweb?

You can use the following options in your ProWeb’s Office Setup menu to Customize it: 

Selected Bank: You may be approved by various banks for their products but you can only choose one at a time. 

Sales Tax Percentage: State law may require you to charge sales tax on your preparation fees. If this is the case, you will have to enter the sales tax percentage. 


Date to show on printed return: Form 1040 has a section tagged the Paid Preparer Use Only in which there are four options for the date specified: 

  • Current date - today 
  • Return Created - The return’s starting date
  • Return Completed - when the return was marked complete. If it is not marked complete, the date indicated would be today’s. 
  • Do Not Print Date - No date will be printing 

Signature On Form 8879: Whatever prints on the “ERO Signature” line on Form 8879 are available in a dropdown menu. They are: 

  • Preparer Name Only - Print only the preparer’s signature 
  • ERO Name Only - Print only the ERO Name 
  • Both ERO and Preparer Names - Print both the Preparer Name and the ERO Name 
  • Leave Blank - Do not print anything

Cover Page Settings: The following are the options in the dropdown menu: 

  • No Cover Page - There won’t be a cover page printed with the returns 
  • Print ERO Information on Cover Page - on the cover page, the first address in the ERO Setup be printed 
  • Print Office Information on Cover Page - You can enter either one or multiple addresses for your office. If it is one address, that address will print. When they are multiple, if the physical address is indicated, it will print. If not, the address listed first will print. 

Print Digital Signatures on 1040: To print both the preparer’s and taxpayer’s signatures on Form 1040, check this option 


Disable Third Party Designee Prefill: The Preparer’s Information for the Third Party Designee on the return’s E-File page cannot be prefilled if this option is checked 


Require taxpayer signatures prior ro e-file: If this option is checked, before any return can be e-filed, it must bear the signature of both the taxp[ayer and their spouses. 


Offer 8888: when checked, Form 8888 options are made available on the E-Filing page for returns having a refund indicated for direct opposite: 


  • Allows you use upto three bank accounts can be used to hold the refund 
  • An option to have part of the refund paid by cheque 
  • Ability to buy upto three savings bonds 

Note: The option of Form 8888 must be checked for it to be available in a return. 

Display Summary using 1040 View: You can switch between two views of a return while working on it at the Tax Return Summary page: 

  • Summary View - Shows Form 1040 numbered schedules’ summary 
  • 1040 View - The numbered schedules as well as every page of the tax return are displayed 

Checking this option makes the 1040 View the default display for the Tax Return Summary page. 


Hide Preparer Name on 1040 Print: The name of the preparer will not be printed in “Paid Preparer Use Only” section of Form 1040 if this option is checked. 


Always Print Schedule A: If this option is checked, a return, regardless of whether it uses the standard or itemized deductions will have Schedule A printed alongside it. 


Use Topaz Signature Pad: In case you are using the Topaz Signature Pad for signing, check this box. 


Note: By checking this option, you cannot use a mouse to capture signatures. 


Force Verification of IP Address: Only the IP addresses captured in your Office’s IP Whitelist will be allowed to log into your ProWeb office. 


Note: If you don’t have any IP addresses specified in the whitelist, do not check this box. Although this setting adds extra security, it may lead to a preparer being locked out because of using a different IP address. IP addresses may be changed by an Internet Service Provider (ISP) resulting in a preparer being locked out. VPNs cannot be used by the Preparers if this option is checked. 


Default State Return Type to be Sent Through Bank: If you check this option, the state return automatically includes a bank product whenever a federal return has a bank product. Should you wish to change this, you can do so at the E-File page. 


Require Email Address Entry on E-File Page: If you check this option, a taxpayer will require an email to e-file a return. The Tax Preparation and E-File Information menu on the E-File provides the field for entering the email address. 


Default Tax Returns to Spanish: Checking this option translates your work to spanish. 


Require Return Tag(s) for Saving Returns: Checking this option will require you to assign a tag to each return. This is useful for offices using Return Tags to sort and track returns. 


Maximum number of clients to display on Client List: When the size of the Client List is greater than the number specified, it will change to a format that is easy to search through or manage so as to avoid long loading times. You can expand the number of clients displayed on the client list from 999 to any number. This may cause the Client List to take longer to load.
