How Can I Set Fees, Custom Fees, and Custom Discounts?

In Configuration, Fee Setup can be used for various purposes: 

  • To determine the amount to charge for preparing a tax return 
  • To set custom fees and discounts of your own 
  • To set the charge amount for all the state and federal schedules and forms 

For instance, through the fee setup, an office may set their minimum preparer fee at $100, a Custom Fee of $20 for complex returns and a Custom Discount of $50 for Active Military. 


Setting these fees is optional except the Maximum Preparer Fee which must be set to an amount more than zero. 


To Set your Office’s Preparation Fees: 

  • Select Configuration from the Welcome Page of your ProWeb 
  • From the Configuration menu select Fee Setup 
  • Enter the Minimum and Maximum preparer fee to your liking. Remember that the Maximum Preparer Fee must be more than zero. 
  • Since the list is long, it can only be narrowed in the following options: 
    • Federal Forms button - Click it to display only federal forms on the list. 
    • State Forms button - Click it to select a state to which you want to narrow down to 
    • Search option - Use it to locate a specific form by using the form’s number, title or any other keyword 
  • You can change from one group of fees to another by using the two buttons provided: 
    • +Set Range - You can assign a group of forms a single fee using this option. The forms must be falling in consecutive order in the list. 
    • +Increase/Decrease - To alter the fee for every form, use this option 
  • The fees are adjusted instantaneously and therefore the Save button is not required. 
  • Once you are done, click Return 

To create Custom Fees and Discounts: 

  • Select Configuration from the Welcome page 
  • Once in the Configuration menu, select the option "Custom Fees and Discounts"
  • Click the +Add Custom Fee option or +Add Custom Discount option to add either the Custom Fee or Discount. 
  • Key in the amount you wish you to set as the fee or discount. 
  • Then enter a name for it 
  • Assess three check boxes: 
    • Charge By Default - If checked, it assigns the fee and/or discount to all returns 
    • Allow to be Removed - Grants ability to the Preparer to omit a fee and/or discount from the E-File page of the return. 
    • Can Edit Fee On Return - Enables the preparer to adjust the fee and/or discount figures on the E-File page of a return.
