Path Menu

There are three main Windows directory paths in the Path Menu, that are connected to Taxx Savage Pro: 

Installation Path 

The installation path is where the Windows directory software is located. It is set during the installation of the Taxx Savage Pro. It bares information that is important to our technical support staff, especially if the location is an atypical directory. 


Prior Path 

The prior path is the Windows directory location for the installation path of the previous year. This path needs to be accurate in order for the previous year’s return information to be accessed and pulled into the present year’s return. The prior path and the present year installation path need to be on the same drive. The prior path is set when the Taxx Savage Pro is installed. Even though you are able to select this menu item, it is deprecated and should not need changing in the future. In a network configuration involving several computers operating the Taxx Savage Pro, the Prior Path should be set on the computer selected to be the file server. 

Secondary Backup Path

In the Taxx Savage Pro, the Windows directory location for a secondary backup of a return is specified by the secondary backup path. The secondary backup may be an external drive that is attached to the computer via a USB cable, a USB thumb drive or a second internal hard drive. Upon exiting the return, the information is written to this backup drive. The drive that is used for secondary backup is required to always be attached to the computer. It must not be cloud-based storage. 

In order to set up the secondary backup path: 

  • Go to the Main Menu of Taxx Savage Pro. 
  • From the menu, select Configuration 
  • Proceed to Path Menu 
  • Then to Secondary Backup Path
  • From the list of installed drives, select a backup path. For a given drive, use the path shown, i.e., (drive letter):\TaxxSavage\20XXNet\DATA, where XX is the program year. 
  • In the event that you would like to customize the path, select Enter Path then key in the path you want. In case the path is non existent, you will be asked whether you would want the path created. To create the path, click YES.
