How to Fix Diagnostic Warnings, Diagnostic Errors, and State Validation Errors
Our tax software has the technology to scan for errors and oversights while you are working on the tax return. These software features present themselves as Diagnostic Warnings, Diagnostic Errors, or State Validation Errors on the webpage.
To act on Diagnostic Warnings and Diagnostic Errors, go to View to see the Warning or Error. The software will navigate to the section requiring review. For State Validation Errors, go to the
Diagnostic Warnings:
- The warning will pop up in yellow.
- This warning signals potential oversights or reminders.
- Diagnostic Warnings do not prevent the filing of the tax return.
Below is an example of a diagnostic warning.
Diagnostic Errors:
- The error will pop up in red.
- These messages signal a problem to fix.
- Diagnostic Errors prevent the filing of the tax return.
Below is an example of a diagnostic error.
State Validation Errors:
- The error will pop up in plain black text with a white background.
- These messages signal issues with the state tax return.
- State Validation Errors prevent the filing of the state tax return but allow the filing of the federal tax return.
