How Can I File Deadline & Extension Information?

Completing and Submitting form 4868

How to Prepare, Purchase, and Submit a Tax Extension

Overview

A tax extension gives additional time to file a return, not additional time to pay taxes owed.
All extensions must be prepared in the software first, then purchased through the Customer Portal to trigger submission.

Step 1: Prepare the Extension in Taxx Savage Software

  1. Log in to your Taxx Savage Software account
  2. Open or create the client’s tax return
  3. Go to the Federal Section
  4. Select Miscellaneous Forms
  5. Click Application for Automatic Extension of Time to File (Form 4868)

Step 2: Complete Form 4868

Enter the required information:

  • Tax Liability
Enter the total estimated tax liability
(You can use “Use Current Liability Amount” to auto-fill)
  • Total Payments
Enter total taxes already paid (withholdings + estimated payments)
  • Amount Paid
Enter any payment being submitted with the extension
  • Out of Country
Check if the taxpayer is outside the United States on the filing deadline
  • Electronic Payment (Optional)
If paying electronically, enter bank account details and select a payment date

Step 3: Purchase the Extension (Triggers Submission)

Once Form 4868 is completed:

  1. Go to the Customer Portal
    👉 https://hub.taxxsavage.com/
  2. Select File Extensions from the left-hand menu
  3. Extensions are $15 each
  4. Enter:
    • Tax year
    • Number of extensions
    • For each extension:
      • First Initial
      • Last Name
      • Last 4 of SSN
  5. Click Add for each entry
  6. Click Purchase Extensions
  7. Complete payment through the secure portal

Important:
Submitting payment notifies the review team to process and e-file the extension. No additional steps are required in the software.

Important Notes

  • Extensions must be completed in the software before purchase
  • Payment in the Customer Portal is what triggers submission
  • Extensions and amended returns are processed by the review team
  • An extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay
  • Pay any estimated taxes by the original deadline to avoid penalties

Filing Deadline Information

  • Standard deadline: April 15
  • If April 15 falls on a weekend → moves to the next business day
  • If impacted by Emancipation Day → may extend to April 16 or 17

Submission Timing

  • Submit by 11:59 PM local time on the deadline
  • Early submission is strongly recommended to avoid delays

Rejected Extensions

  • Rejected extensions can be corrected and retransmitted within 5 days
  • Deadline for retransmission: 11:59 PM on the 5th day after rejection

How to Check for Rejected or Unaccepted Extensions

  1. Go to the Welcome Page in ProWeb
  2. Select Reports
  3. Click Transmission Reports

These reports will show:
