How can I Add a Preparer in Configuration?

The ERO/Office Administrator generates usernames and passwords for preparers. The password can be changed by the preparer when they log into their accounts for the first time. However, after the username has been created, it cannot be changed.

Note: Before you set up preparers, first set up Security Templates. You can check out our article on Setting Up Security Templates to know how to set them up.

To either add or set up a Preparer in Taxx Savage ProWeb:

  • From the Welcome Page, go to Configuration
  • Proceed to Preparer Setup
  • At the bottom of the page, select +ADD PREPARER
  • You will not need the SSN
  • Ýou will need to write your First & Last Name
  • Default PIN Number - 5 digits representing the preparer’s signature
  • 2848 CAF Number - The IRS issues the CAF number to those who have the Power of Attorney and can file Form 2848. Enter the CAF number in this field.
  • Then either check Data Entry Only, no PTIN required or enter the PTIN/SIDN
  • If applicable, Check Office Contact and Self Employed
  • If you would like the preparer to be limited to their returns, check Can view own returns only
  • The option “Required to use Guide” is checked for those preparers who don’t yet have a proper understanding of how the program works. It is checked so that the preparer may be guided while preparing returns. The guide is in the form of step by step questions.
  • Prepares NY returns - This is checked for those preparers who will work on returns from New York. These preparers must be registered by the state and have a NYTPRIN which you will be required to enter in this field. Instead of the NYTPRIN, you can also enter a NYTPRIN Exempt Code.
  • Check Prepares OR returns if the preparer will prepare tax returns from the state of Oregon which registers its preparers and gives them an OR license number. In this section, you have to enter the preparer’s OR license number too.

Preparer Agent Information:

Enter a preparer’s Title, Office Code, Company Name and IRS Agreement Date if they are authorized IRS Acceptance Agents. All this will be used for application for an ITIN, Form W-7.

Login Account:

  • Multi-Factor Authentication requires Email Address and Cell Phone Numbers - Multi-Factor Authentication is an extra layer of security. It works like the two step verification where while login in, you either send a verification code to your email or phone number. Before proceeding to other fields, ensure that this information is correct.
  • Username - the username you generate for the preparer is unchangeable.
  • Password - create a password for the preparer. This is changeable. In the event that the preparer forgets their password, they can simply change it by clicking Forgot Password and follow the instructions provided.
  • Active Checkbox - To grant the preparer permission of login into the program, check this box.
  • Security Template - Use this to limit the operations of the preparer in the program.
  • When you are done, click Continue.
  • To go back to the Configuration Main Menu, click Return.

All preparers as well as yourself are marked inactive by the Flip Active Status button that is on the Preparer Menu. Using it puts you at risk of being locked out of your own account. It is therefore advisable that you use it only when necessary and when you do, mark yourself active again before exiting that page. Incase you lock yourself out, call the support team for help.
